Although the latest spot for director Gore Verbinski’s upcoming action flick is essentially more of the same, the footage is still quite thrilling. The filmmaker’s flare for explosive set pieces and elaborate special effects are definitely on full display.

The film has been officially described as follows:

” ‘The Lone Ranger’ is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice — taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.”

Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp have made a habit out of earning a ton of money at the box office. The duo’s Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration with Disney has generated a fair amount of cash for all involved. The studio is hoping to use this winning formula to make The Lone Ranger a huge success around the globe.

According to the official press release for the upcoming film, the Pirates franchise has made an estimated $3 billion around the world since the first release.

Johnny Depp will reportedly begin work on the upcoming crime drama Black Mass for director Barry Levinson later this year. The veteran actor will portray Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger in the film. Although production has been slated for this May, a release date has not been set as of this writing.
