Giada De Laurentiis And Bobby Flay Pitching Daytime Talk Show
TV chefs Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay are trying to cook up a new career in syndication. They apparently find the idea of hosting a morning television talk show quite appetizing.
CBS was initially interested in their morning talk show venture but turned it down, so they are pitching it to NBC.
The New York Post had the exclusive report on the proposed De Laurentiss-Flay co-hosted TV talk show:
“The Food Network stars — who are looking to do a show that would compete with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strayhan’s Live — met late last week with former Today show exec Marc Victor about NBC picking up the project, the sources say.
“Flay and DeLaurentis — both whom are looking to break out of the food TV ghetto and find a more general audience — began shopping a co-hosted talk show early last year.”
According to the Eater National website, Bobby Flay said that “CBS syndication passed but there are other networks interested in the project … It’s the natural progression of these kinds of deals.”
Giada De Laurentiis is the granddaughter of famed film producer Dino De Laurentiis. She is host of the current Food Network television program Giada at Home and a judge on The Next Food Network Star. Bobby Flay is also a judge on that reality show and the host of several Food Network programs.
Do you think that a talk show co-hosted by Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay could compete in the TV ratings wars with Kelly and Michael and other morning programming? Would you consider having very successful run on the Food Network equivalent to being stuck in the “food TV ghetto”?
