‘Where’s My Refund?’ IRS Service Helps Taxpayers Track Their Refund [Video]

What is the next step after filling your taxes? Asking, Where’s my refund? Well the IRS has a service for that and it’s called ‘Where’s my refund?‘

This service has existed for several years now, and it has helped many tax payers ease the pains of anticipation of when their tax refunds would arrive. However, the problem was that the service could only anticipate a refund date, and that it would sometimes be earlier (a cause for happiness) or later (a cause for frustration).

As reported by International Business Times, the service now provides more detailed information, by breaking it down to stages. These included: Return Received, Refund Approved, and Refund Sent.

This new upgrade in ‘Where’s my refund?‘ service should help taxpayers keep better track of their refund, and to also catch any problems that they might have with their refund from the IRS.

Taxpayers will also benefit in having real-time tracking of any errors that might arise with their taxes, like missing information, or attachments, or math errors; that would otherwise have caused further delays can now be noticed by the taxpayer sooner, and attempt to correct it

This service is available for use today, as it is the first day of the filling season for 2013.

Here is a glimpse of what taxpayers would expect to see with this service:

1)Return Received (Message received after 24 hours for e-filed returns and after 4 weeks for paper mailed returns.)

-We have received your tax return and it is being processed.

-You should get your refund within 21 days from the date we received your tax return.

-Please check here or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go, to check on your refund.

2) Refund Approved

-Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank on (MMDDYYYY). (Direct deposit date of refund) or (Other appropriate text if a paper check)

-If your refund is not credited to your account by (the above date), check with your bank to see if it has been received.

-Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day.

3) Refund Sent

-Your refund was sent to your bank on (MMDDYYY) for direct deposit (or other appropriate text if a paper check).

-If your refund is not credited to your account by (MMDDYYY), check with your bank to find out if it was received (or other appropriate text if a paper check).
