X Games Snowmobile Crash: Caleb Moore Suffers Heart Injury During Accident
Caleb Moore underwent surgery on Friday morning after he suffered a heart contusion during a horrific crash while competing in the Snowmobile Freestyle finals Thursday night at Winter X Games Aspen.
Moore was attempting an indy air backflip on his 450-pound sled. The backflip came up short, and the machine tumbled over Moore, knocking him unconscious and leaving him with a concussion and multiple other injuries.
According to an X Games Medical report issued Friday:
“While Caleb was being evaluated late last night, he developed bleeding around the heart and was urgently flighted to Grand Junction [Colo.]. He underwent surgery this morning. The procedure went well, and Caleb is currently in ICU with a heart contusion.”
It was not a good night for the Moore family. Brother Colten was also injured during the Snowmobile Freestyle final and was being treated for a separation of the pelvis.
The Moore brothers are popular competitors on the snowmobile circuit, having shared the X Games podium in 2012. Colten won the gold last year and Caleb Moore claimed the bronze medal.
Also injured during the Thursday night event was Daniel Bodin, who suffered a left wrist injury but no break.
