Facebook Apologizes For Threatening To Shut Down ‘Chicks On The Right’ Page
Facebook apologized for threatening to shut down the “Chicks on the Right” page after a post critical of President Barack Obama was published. The social networking website reportedly stated that page visitors were “incorrectly warned” page’s User Operation’s Team.
The “Chicks on the Right” Facebook page has more than 100,000 fans. The two women who run the page were given notice of the pending shutdown on Wednesday morning, Fox News notes. One of the conservative page administrators was also told she would be locked of her personal page as well, according to The Blaze. The woman was told that the move was because one of her posts had violated Facebook standards.
The “Chicks on the Right” post targeted White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. The post reportedly referred page visitors to an article entitled, “You Know What? Liberal Hypocrisy is Starting to Cause Me Actual Physical Pain.”
The conservative Facebook page administrator known as Mockarena posted this response on the “Chicks on the Right” page:
“Jay Carney can kiss my assular area.”
Facebook spokesman Fred Wolens had this to say about the conservative lock out:
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, the users were incorrectly warned by our User Operation’s Team and we have already removed all associated blocks from the accounts.”
Wolens also noted that the Facebook team reviews millions of pieces of content every day and consider the “Chicks on the Right’ incident merely a mistake. Wolens’ reasoning did not go over well with some conservative and Republican Facebook users. Fox News reportedly received emails from multiple viewers that they too had been subjected to lock outs by the social networking giant.
Mockarena also had this to say about Facebook and politics:
“I think people are starting to realize that Facebook is not necessarily a safe place for conservatives. They are targeting conservatives. All those reports get funneled into Facebook and with enough complaints the pages are then shut down.”
Do you think there is a political bias on Facebook?
