‘Django Unchained’ Action Figures Banned From eBay

The Weinstein Company’s discontinued Django Unchained action figures have been banned from eBay.

Fans of director Quentin Tarantino’s controversial western had taken to the popular auction website to obtain the items after the figures were yanked from shelves. According to TMZ, the company has decided to pull any and all listings featuring the rare toys.

eBay said in an email to sellers:

“Since the manufacturer of this product has discontinued the item’s sale due to its potentially offensive nature, we are not allowing it to be sold on eBay.”

A spokesperson for eBay told the website that the toys were “removed as they were in violation of our Offensive Materials policy.” The company also warned sellers no to re-list the figures at a later date.

Purple Revolver reports that prices for the toys had skyrocketed since the Weinstein Company discontinued production of the action figures. Before eBay decided to pull the toys from its site, some of the figures were selling for upwards of $1,300.

The producers of Django Unchained developed six dolls with the help of collectibles company NECA as a tie-in to Quentin Tarantino’s latest cinematic endeavor. However, the Civil War era setting proved to be a little too controversial for consumers. After being pressured by several African-American advocacy groups, the toys were eventually discontinued.

The Weinstein Company said in a statement:

“We have tremendous respect for the audience and it was never our intent to offend anyone. They were meant to be collectibles for people aged 17 years and older, which is the audience for the film.”

Although the figures have been pulled from eBay, Amazon Z-Shops still have a few of the action figures up for grabs. However, each figure will easily set you back several hundred dollars.
