Shakira Gives Birth To Baby Boy, Milan Piqué Mebarak
Shakira has given birth to a baby boy after it was rumored earlier that the singer would induce labor today.
Shakira and Gerard Piqué have welcomed son Milan Piqué Mebarak into their family on Tuesday, January 22, reports MTV.
The Latin singer and her soccer-star boyfriend announced the happy news on Shakira’s official website.
“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain,” the announcement reads. “The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”
The announcement also said that Milan weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are “in excellent health.” Milan is the first child for the couple.
The newspaper El Pais reports that baby Milan was delivered via caesarean section and that Piqué was the only man allowed in the delivery room (Shakira had previously requested a female-only medical team).
If you want to send the couple support, you can do so here. They set up an online charity baby shower through UNICEF to benefit underprivileged babies.
“Every couple that’s expecting a baby shares our same dreams and hopes for their children,” said Shakira, a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. “However, many don’t have the same opportunities we do to give them a happy childhood free of preventable and easily cured illnesses. Together we can change that.”
