Joe Biden 2016? VP Isn’t Exactly Playing Coy About Potential Run

Is Joe Biden going to run for president in 2016? Form the looks of it, the answer is pretty much “yes,” and the current VP isn’t exactly playing coy about it.

The newly re-minted vice president has battled gaffes and rumors of replacement, but one thing he’s not shying away from is the suggestion that he may run for president in 2016. Biden hasn’t done much to mask his potential interest in becoming “Mr. President,” and has already started sowing seeds for a potential campaign to succeed President Barack Obama in four years, reports NBC News.

“In a couple years, I think he’s going to take a hard look at it,” son Beau Biden said on MSNBC. “I hope he does.”

Biden started stoking speculation on inaugural weekend, when he stopped by the Iowa State Society’s inaugural ball, and invited New Hampshire Democrats to his formal swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. Why is this key to a 2016 run? Both Iowa and New Hampshire traditionally host the first two nominating contests during primary election season.

Biden mistakenly referred to himself as the president at the Iowa ball, marking his first gaffe in his second term as vice president. He later corrected his misstatement, reports The Des Moines Register.

Biden continued his presidential tour on Monday, glad-handing his way down Pennsylvania Avenue during the inaugural parade.

It seems silly to me to imagine Joe Biden as the next president. He is, in many ways, the weird uncle you avoid at Thanksgiving of the Democratic Party. He’s as gaffe-worthy as Mitt Romney, as goofy as George W. Bush, and as off-putting as Ron Paul.

Still, given the state of the Republican Party right now, I’m going to start practicing the words “President Biden.” Without a capable or credible opposing party, the US of A seems to be the land of liberals for the long haul, for better or worse. The Founders must be so proud.
