Famke Janssen Discusses Her Role In ‘Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters’
Actress Famke Janssen said the script’s Tarantino-esque vibe is what drew her to the role of Muriel in the upcoming action-horror hybrid Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.
The Taken 2 co-star recently sat down with the folks at MTV News to discuss her role in Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola’s English-language debut. The actress stated that Wirkola and co-writer Dante Harper’s script is what initially prompted her to sign on for the project.
Janssen explained:
“It felt right away, when I read [the script], that this is sort of this Tarantino-esque feel to a classic story that we’ve seen told in many different variations, but never this one. But I think, overall, you always want to look at the story. Would it hold its own? And a character…what’s this character like? Can I do something with her that I haven’t done before?’ Those are kind of the parameters, the things that I look at.”
During a recent interview with Superhero Hype, Famke Janssen talked about the possibility of her returning to the X-Men universe in director Bryan Singer’s upcoming sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. Although Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellan, and Patrick Stewart are reportedly on-board, the actress said she’s still waiting to hear back from the filmmaker himself.
She explained:
“I’m sitting by the phone waiting, call me up Bryan! I think their challenge is that I died as Jean Grey and I died as the Phoenix, so what else can they do. If they bring a younger version back, they’ll have to get a younger actress, so what is there left to do?”
In addition to Famke Janssen, director Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters also stars rising star Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, and popular character actor Peter Stormare. The film is slated to arrive in US theaters on January 25.
