Sarah Jessica Parker’s Role Cut From Porn Biopic ‘Lovelace’

Sarah Jessica Parker’s role has been cut entirely from the final version of Lovelace, the biopic of the woman who rose to fame in 1972 X-rated flick Deep Throat.

Parker (pictured below during filming) was a last-minute addition to the film after Demi Moore dropped out of the project with unspecified health issues. She was due to play feminist icon Gloria Steinem, but her cameo will now go no further than the cutting-room floor.

Directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Parker’s appearance was cut when they decided they didn’t require the character in the final film.

Epstein and Friedman originally planned for the film’s script to end in 1984. However, a change of heart during the editing process meant the directors felt it would be better to end the story earlier, in the year 1980, before Lovelace encountered Steinem. Regarding the cut, Friedman admits:

“You never want to make that call.”

The Sarah Jessica Parker role was cut after the Sex and the City star was rushed into the role in the middle of shooting. However, Epstein and Friedman say the actress was perfectly gracious about the decision. Epstein recalls:

“She was a pro.”

Lovelace features Amanda Seyfried playing Linda Lovelace, the woman who starred in Deep Throat before becoming an anti-porn crusader. Like Parker, Seyfried was a replacement. Kate Hudson was originally in the role before Seyfried took over in November 2011.

Lovelace will make its debut on January 22 at the Sundance Film Festival … minus Sarah Jessica Parker.
