The much talked about trailer for The Iceman has dropped. The Iceman directed by Ariel Vromen and starring Michael Shannon and Chris Evans, sees Shannon in a truly sinister role.
Based on a true story, Shannon, who has received critical acclaim for his role, plays Richard Kuklinski, a notorious contract killer, who lives a double life as a family man. Alongside Shannon is Chris Evans as his right hand man, Winona Ryder as Kuklinski’s wife, Ray Liotta, and James Franco who’s a casualty in this story.
Here’s the official synopsis of The Iceman :
“Millennium Films and Bleiberg Entertainment bring the story of notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski, nicknamed “The Iceman,” to the big screen. Inspired by actual events, The Iceman stars Academy Award® nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, “Boardwalk Empire”) as the real-life hitman who in 1986 was convicted of murdering 100 men for various crime organizations around the New York area. The compelling twist to Kuklinski’s story was that he was also a devoted husband and father whose family was unaware of his real profession until his arrest.”
About Richard Kuklinski’s complex nature as a man, Shannon had this to say:
“Kuklinski’s a very captivating person. A lot of people, when they see the interview the first time, they see a very frightening individual. I felt like he was aware of the mistakes he’d made and how much suffering he had caused. He was trying to process it sitting in prison by himself. There’s something very sad about it, not that I condone or approve of what he did, but I felt like he deserved some consideration for what he went through.”
If one thing is for certain it’s that Shannon looks absolutely terrifying as Kuklinski. He’s an actor known to whip out performances that vary from one character to the next, with a nuanced intensity throughout each role. Check out the trailer for The Iceman below.
