While the odds have been in Jennifer Lawrence’s favor (get it?) during award season, Lawrence has been flying back and forth from her promotional tour of Silver Linings Playbook to film the forthcoming sequel to her action franchise The Hunger Games .
Those of the series are probably extremely happy that their very own Katniss “Katnip” Everdeen scored a big award last night at the Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Now Hunger Games fans have something else to celebrate, and that’s because Lionsgate has decided to hop on the Jennifer Lawrence love affair just in time to promote the new sequel Catching Fire .
Today Lionsgate released new images from the anticipated film starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Sam Claflin, Catching Fire is the continuing journey of Katniss Everdeen, which takes place in a “futuristic dystopian world” and she prepares for her second battle, title “Quarter Quell.”
New characters will be introduced, such as Finnick (Sam Claflin), Johanna Mason (Jena Malone), and Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The new characters will join the world of the old ones, including Katniss, Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), and Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth).
Jennifer Lawrence recently opened up about the difference between the first Hunger Games film to the second for her character Katniss Everdeen:
“Whenever we would talk about Katniss, it was: ‘you’re from District 12 and a hunter.’ I didn’t feel like an action star. I didn’t feel like a hero. I felt like a hunter. It helped ground the reality of it: she’s good not because she’s trained killer but because she’s a 16-year-old girl who’s great with her senses. And in [“Catching Fire”], I’m a hunter.”
