The suits at ABC are reportedly so impressed with Joss Whedon and his script for the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot that it’s believed the series will likely be ordered by the network.

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee told reporters that the script for the pilot is great, and that it’s definitely in keeping with what Joss does best. According to UPI , Lee believes the show will appeal to both men and women. In other words, the network is expecting it to be a huge hit.

Lee recently told reporters:

“You know how Joss is so high, low? He’s able to be intense and epic and suddenly funny and silly. He’s got that ability to be super-entertaining and yet super-educated. Marvel has the ability to bring the whole family around it. Joss has great relationships around it. There’s a lot of real funny male-female relationships and flirtations, but it’s also Joss and Marvel, so there’s a lot of action to it.”

The Avengers director recently sat down with the folks at Collider to discuss the numerous projects he currently has in the works. In addition to the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, the filmmaker is preparing to get the proverbial ball rolling on the inevitable Avengers sequel.

Joss Whedon said the pilot is likely to begin shooting a week from this Tuesday. He also explained that the show will be a little bigger and a bit more epic than your typical TV cop show.

The director said:

“It’s about the people on the edges of the grand adventures. The whole point of the show is that even with all these big things, the little things matter. It’s about people who don’t have super powers. There will be some people with powers, there will be FX, and there will be the spectacle of science-fiction storytelling — but all played on a very human, small level. That’s the appeal of the thing.”
