Director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy will reportedly begin shooting this summer. The film is expected to arrive in theaters in 2014.

It’s currently being reported that Marvel Studios will produce the film in England. A large portion of the production will take place at the Pinewood Group’s Shepperton Studios, which is where a lot of the James Bond movies are filmed. According to Coming Soon , this is where Marvel previously shot director Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World .

Although fans now know when the movie will start production, it’s currently unknown who will star in the film. All sorts of names have been thrown around as of late, including The Dark Knight Rises co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. However, nothing official has been confirmed.

ScreenDaily reports that a number of major Hollywood films have been filmed at the studios in recent days, including Maleficent , Jack Ryan , and aforementioned Thor sequel. Word has it the new Muppets movie with Ricky Gervais will be produced there as well.

Hollywood is currently under the spell of the UK’s tax incentives, which makes filming movies in the country a little easier than in other territories. This may explain why the big-budget flick Guardians of the Galaxy is headed across the pond.

The film is based on the comic book of the same name. Although the characters first appeared during the 60s, they enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in 2008. Now that superhero movies are all the rage, it would seem Marvel is looking to cash in on the craze once again.

The unofficial logline for the film reads as follows:

“About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.”

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is currently slated to arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014. Are you looking forward to the movie?
