Nicolas Winding Refn Is No Longer Directing ‘The Equalizer’
Acclaimed director Nicolas Winding Refn has reportedly walked away from the upcoming adaptation of the TV series The Equalizer.
The film was set to be his next project after the Ryan Gosling flick Only God Forgives. Unfortunately for fans of the filmmaker, he is longer attached to bring the cult series to life on the big screen.
Although Refn is no longer involved, it doesn’t look like the project is dead in the water just yet. According to Cinema Blend, potential star Denzel Washington is still slated to tackle the lead role. However, it’s unclear up will pick up the reins now that Refn is out of the picture.
Admirers of the director still have a few projects to look forward to down the road. Nicolas Winding Refn is reportedly still attached to the remake of the 70s science fiction flick Logan’s Run. The filmmaker is also set to adapt the graphic novel Button Man.
As for The Equalizer, Sony Pictures is still hoping to get the project together by this summer. Collider reports that the studio is shopping around for another director to get behind the camera this May. It’s currently unknown who they have in mind for the job.
For who don’t remember The Equalizer, the synopsis below may help shed some light on the upcoming project at Sony:
“Robert McCall is The Equalizer, a private detective with a lot of contacts who is available for hire if you have a problem that you don’t know how to solve. His no-nonsense attitude, compassion, and experience with dealing with a wide variety of situations makes him a powerful and useful detective.”
Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives starring Ryan Gosling is presently slated to hit theaters in the United States on March 28. Are you a fan of the director?
