Katherine Webb may have been the object of announcer Brent Musburger’s on-air fawning during the BCS Title game, but the parents of the famous girlfriend say people need to cut Musburger some slack.
Webb is the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, and when she was shown on air during the game Murburger went heavy on the compliments.
“You quarterbacks, you get all the good looking women,” Musburger said, referring to Webb. “What a beautiful woman.”
Now, the father of Katherin Webb says he understand what Murburger was trying to say.
“On one hand, you can look at it as being kind of like the dirty old man, but I’m used to this and I think if you really look into what that he was trying to say, he was trying to be complimentary, and I think they need to give Brent a break,” Alan Webb told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Katherine’s mom said her daughter has been surprised by the attention she’s received since the game.
“She didn’t even know that they had the camera on her,” said Katherine’s mom, Leslie. “She didn’t see it.”
Since she was shown during the National Championship game — which McCarron and his Alabama teammates won handily over Notre Dame — Katherine Webb has seen a huge increase in attention. Her Twitter followers grew by 90,000 nearly overnight. The social media response and ensuing apology from ESPN for Brent Musburger’s comments stole most of the attention away from the game itself, Yahoo! Sports noted.
Katherine Webb’s parents also revealed something else about their Miss USA pageant daughter — she was an ugly duckling growing up, bullied for her skin condition Vitiglio and her height.
