Woman Choked With Dreadlocks, Oregon Man Arrested
Claims by a woman that her boyfriend choked her with his dreadlocks during a domestic altercation led to a Portland, Oregon man being arrested by police on Monday.
At approximately 2:30 am on Monday morning, Portland police officers responded to a domestic violence report involving the couple. Upon arrival at the residence, located in the 3200 block of Southeast 22nd Avenue, the officers spoke with a female who claimed that her boyfriend had violently attacked her.
An article by Gawker writes that the woman reported to authorities on scene that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend Caleb Grotberg. She went on to report that during the altercation Grotberg allegedly attempted to choke her with his dreadlocks.
Dreadlocks are described by Wikipedia as follows:
“Dreadlocks, also called locks, a ras, dreads, or Jata (Hindi), are matted coils of hair. Dreadlocks are usually intentionally formed; because of the variety of different hair textures, various methods are used to encourage the formation of locks such as backcombing. Additionally, leaving long hair to its own devices by not brushing or cutting the hair will encourage it to tangle together as it grows, leading to twisted, matted ropes of hair known as dreadlocks.”
The Associated Press reports that following a search of the neighborhood, Portland officers arrested 32-year-old Caleb Grotberg. The man is currently being investigated in regards to “several domestic violence felony crimes”. Possible charges include strangulation, second-degree kidnapping, and fourth-degree assault.
The unidentified woman was taken to a local hospital on Monday. She was reported to be receiving medical care for several non-life threatening injuries.
