David Letterman Says He Sees A Psychiatrist Every Week
David Letterman recently revealed that he sees a psychiatrist every week. The revelation was just one of the many topics discussed during an in-depth interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Letterman explained that his decision to see a psychiatrist was prompted by the sex scandal that rocked his late night talk show three years ago. According to The Associated Press, the affairs he had with members of his staff left him wanting to become a better person.
The talk show host reportedly told Winfrey:
“For a long time I thought I was a decent guy. But yet, thinking I was a decent guy, I was still capable of behavior that wasn’t coincidental to leading a decent life. That’s what I’m working on. I want to really be the person I believe that I was. I wanna be a good person.”
Xfinity reports that Letterman went through a deep depression following the scandal, something he thought he could get through by simply “doing push-ups.” However, the comedian decided to seek professional help once the problem didn’t go away on its own.
When asked by Oprah if he sees a psychiatrist on a regular basis, Letterman answered the inquiry with a joke and a question of his own.
“Is once a week regular?” he laughed.
David Letterman also discussed the problems the scandal caused in his marriage. Although he claims his wife has forgiven him, the late night talk show host admitted that he’s still attempting to rebuild trust in their relationship.
“I’m still trying to fix it,” Letterman said.
Oprah Winfrey’s interview with David Letterman aired this past Sunday (January 6) on the OWN Network. The program is currently scheduled to air again on the channel on January 20.
