Florida Woman Shoots Child And Then Herself: In Critical Condition [Breaking]

Melanie Reyes, A 20-year-old Florida woman was in critical condition Friday after she shot her infant son, killing him, and then turned the gun on herself.

Authorities found Reyes and her baby after checking at the request of Reyes’ family, who called 911 to report a statement on her Facebook page. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office claims she “indicated she was going to shoot her child and herself,” according to CNN.

Both were sent to a hospital, where the infant was confirmed dead. Police recovered the handgun from the home assumed to be used in the shootings, says WPTV.

The incident comes around half a month after Reyes was arrested for domestic battery after her boyfriend said she struck him with a baseball bat. Her next court date had been scheduled for January 22.
