A Pilot And A Passenger Were Both Taken Into Custody In Alcohol-Related Incidents
An allegedly drunken passenger was taped to his seat after allegedly yelling the plane was going to crash and tried to choke a woman. The unnamed man was ultimately restrained by other passengers and taped to his seat for the remainder of the flight.
Ellwood, an alleged witness to the antics of the drunken passenger posed this on his Tumblr page:
“Passenger drank all of his duty free liquor on the flight from Iceland to JFK yesterday. When he became unruly (i.e. trying to choke the woman next to him and screaming the plane was going to crash) fellow passengers subdued him and tied him up for the rest of the flight. He was escorted off the flight by police when it landed.”
The emotional meltdown reportedly began when just two hours were left in the flight. During the frantic yelling and alleged choking attempt, the drunken male passenger also supposedly spat on several passengers, CBS News notes.
IcelandAir Vice President of Corporate Communication Guojon Arngrimsson confirmed that the passenger was behaving in a dangerous manner but would not comment on the photo. The allegedly drunken passenger was transported to a local hospital by Port Authority officers, but has not been charged with a crime, according to the Daily Mail.
The unnamed male passenger was not the incident involving drinking and flying allegations. An American Eagle pilot failed a blood-alcohol breath test before he left for a scheduled flight from Minneapolis to New York City. The pilot was already running pre-flight checks at 6:30 am when tipped off police officers boarded the plane and administered a breathalyzer test. The pilot was arrested and has been suspended pending an investigation.
