Hayley Atwell Won’t Be Back For ‘Captain America 2’
Actress Hayley Atwell has confirmed that she won’t be back for Captain America 2.
Fans of the series shouldn’t be overwhelmingly surprised that Atwell won’t reprise her role as Peggy Carter in the film. Since the stories take place several decades apart, her involvement outside of flashbacks would be understandably limited.
According to Timeout, Haley Atwell stated in a recent interview that she won’t be returning for the sequel to Joe Johnston’s 2011 hit Captain America: The First Avenger.
Since the film was announced, rumors suggested that Hayley Atwell would somehow figure into the story line However, the actress’ confirmation pretty much kills any hope that Peggy Carter will be making any appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
HitFix reports that a handful of actors from the 2011 superhero flick will show up for the sequel. In addition to star Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan has also signed to reprise his role as Bucky. The film will also feature Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Cobie Smulders.
The official synopsis reads as follows:
“As Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he’s reunited with James ‘Bucky’ Barnes, who is now brainwashed Russian assassin known as the ‘Winter Soldier’.”
Although Hayley Atwell won’t be coming back to Captain America 2, the actress still has a number of projects to keep her busy. Atwell will appear in writer-director John Ridley’s All is by My Side as well as Pearry Reginald Teo’s The Return of Captain Nemo.
As for who will tackle Captain America’s love interest in the next installment in the series, everyone from Mary Elizabeth Winstead to Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke have been tossed around for a possible role. As of this writing, Marvel has remained tight-lipped about who might be signing on.
