Jennifer Hudson Addresses Nasty Split From David Otunga, Throws Shade On ‘The Voice’
Jennifer Hudson appears to be addressing her nasty split from former fiancé David Otunga – and throwing what could a little subtle shade in the process – shortly after it was confirmed that the two had officially called it quits and Hudson had received a protective order against the former wrestler, who is the father of her eight-year-old son.
Jennifer joked about her failed romance with David – who she was engaged to for around a decade before announcing their split in a statement in November – on The Voice on December 4, as she joked with contestant David Fleming about their breakup.
Despite reports of serious tension between Jennifer and David since their split was confirmed earlier this year, Hudson appeared in good spirits on the Monday night episode of the popular NBC show as she swapped relationship stories with Davon.
As the confirmed that he’d be singing “Hurt” by former The Voice coach Christina Aguilera, Davon told JHud per Daily Mail that the heartfelt song accurately represented how successful he’s been in relationships.
“None of my relationships ever work out,” Fleming told Hudson of his past romances, to which she then quipped of her recent breakup, “Child, mine neither!”
But it wasn’t just on the Monday night episode of the series where Jennifer seemingly referenced her split from Otunga.
Jennifer also appeared to throw a little shade at the former wrestler on Instagram amid the Tuesday night show on December 5. She posted a cryptic caption alongside a photo of herself looking stunning and happy while sitting in her red spinning chair in an embellished pink bomber jacket.
Smiling from ear to ear in the photo, Hudson appeared to reference her nasty breakup with David by writing, “Never allow someone else’s ugly mess up your beautiful!”
Though Jennifer didn’t mention her ex by name, a number of fans assumed the star was more than likely alluding to her recent split after it was revealed that the couple’s relationship had turned pretty nasty.
“Amen, sweet girl, stay strong love, praying for you,” commented one fan on the Instagram snap. Another told Hudson, “[You’ll] do fine on your own.”

Hudson confirmed she and Otunga had called it quits in a statement issued in November, revealing to People that they were no longer together and that she had obtained a protective order against him for the safety of both herself and their eight-year-old son David Jr.
The order has since been dropped, and David denied all the allegations made against him. He even accused Jennifer of attempting to make herself out to be the victim.
Confirming they had actually split months before the news was made public, David’s lawyer said in a statement obtained by The Mirror, “As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in the WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award-winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim.”
“Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him,” the statement continued in part.
Jennifer’s latest Instagram post also comes shortly after she used the social media site to dispel rumors of a feud between herself and her fellow The Voice coaches Miley Cyrus and Blake Shelton.
After rumors began to swirl that JHud had not been getting along with her fellow musicians on the set, the star appeared to dismiss the allegations by posting a video of herself and Blake joking around together on the set followed by a sweet photo of her and Miley embracing in her chair.
Jennifer also appeared to address her recent breakup in the caption, telling fans that Miley has “always got my back.”
