Activision Releases ‘The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct’ Gameplay Footage [Video]
Activision recently released gameplay footage from the upcoming shooter based on the Walking Dead television series.
Instead of going the cinematic route and telling an interactive story, the developers behind the shooter have opted for something a bit more traditional. Judging from the footage you see before, the game has more in common with Dead Island than its interactive counterpart.
Besides the the difference in execution, Activision’s Walking Dead also differs from Telltale Games title in terms of source material. Where the third-person adventure draws heavily from the comic book written by Robert Kirkman, the shooter was inspired by AMC’s hit television series.
According to Hexus, Activision announced its version of The Walking Dead over the summer. Outside of a few screenshots, the publisher had kept relatively quiet about the game.
The company described the game as follows:
“[‘The Walking Dead’ is] a do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game that brings the deep, character-driven world of AMC’s Emmy Award-winning TV series onto console gaming systems and the PC in a frightening, new way. The game puts players in the role of the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, on a haunting, unforgiving quest across the Georgia countryside to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta.”
Players will be able to choose between Merle or Daryl Dixon when they embark on their zombie-related adventure sometime next year. The video suggests that gamers will be doing a lot of running, jumping, and killing during their journey.
IGN explains that Terminal Reality’s The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will also force players to choose between who lives and who dies. While venturing through the game world, gamers can pick up other characters who are in need of rescue. If you don’t have any room in your vehicle, then someone may end up being food for the zombie apocalypse.
