Does This Confirm Taylor Swift & Selena Gomez Have A Duet Coming?
Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez fans were sent into meltdown mode on November 5 after Big Machine boss Scott Borchetta, who first discovered Taylor as a country artist in Nashville back in 2005, appeared to tease that the long-time besties could have a collaboration on Swift’s new album, Reputation.
Taylor and Selena’s army of fans speculated that Scott appeared to be hinting at something special on the social media site after he tweeted out a link to the Target commercial for Reputation alongside the caption “this is so good.”
While the music boss’ tweet seemed innocent enough as a promo for the star’s impending sixth album release, it was who he tagged that really got fans talking across social media.
Fans noticed that as well as tagging both Taylor and Big Machine’s official Twitter accounts, Scott also mysteriously tagged Selena in his tweet.
Though Scott didn’t give anything else away in his message on the social media site, Swifties and Selenators took the tag as a cryptic allude to the fact that Swift and Gomez could possibly have a duet on her new album, which is set to drop on November 10.
“Does this confirm a Selena/Taylor duet on the album because I’m about to call the police,” @LindsSwiftJenna responded to Borchetta’s Twitter tease on November 5.
“Is there a Selena collab?” another fan responded, while a third tweeted in response to the tease “OMG IT’S HAPPENING” alongside a GIF of Swift and Gomez dancing together.
“Selena?? What [are] you hiding from us Scott?” asked another Swiftie.
The two have never hit the studio together to release a song but did perform together back in 2011 when Swift brought Gomez out during a stop on her “Speak Now Tour” at Madison Square Garden in New York City for a surprise appearance. The friends then performed Selena’s track “Who Says” for the excited crowd.
They performed together again in 2015 on Taylor’s “Red Tour” in Los Angeles, collaborating on “Good For You.”
All parties have so far stayed quiet amid all the duet and collaboration speculation. However, it probably wouldn’t come as too much of a shock to fans of either artist to learn that Selena and Taylor have hit the studio together if the duet speculation really does come to fruition.
The two pop superstars have been very close friends for several years, often gushing about their closeness in interviews and on social media.
Gomez even spoke out about Swift’s new album last month, confirming in October that she’s heard all of her bestie’s new music and is a “major fan” of the new turn she’s been taking with the tracks she’s already dropped from Reputation in the run-up to the official release date.
“I obviously love her so much and want her to do what she does and she’s killing it,” Selena told Zane Lowe on Apple Music when asked about what she really thinks of Swift taking a new direction with her music on her upcoming release, according to E! News.
Selena then went on to call being around Taylor while she was in the writing process for her new album “so inspiring,” which could have been an early and cryptic tease at a possible collaboration.
“It’s really cool to surround yourself with people and be involved with people who are inspiring and changing the way that they dictate what they love,” she then said of her close friend. “[Taylor’s] one of those people who continue to do that.”
Gomez also called Swift’s new album “everything you would want and more” in the interview and added that she’s “so very proud and obviously a major fan” of Taylor’s new music.
