Kim Kardashian Posts Apology For Her Aaliyah Halloween Costume
For Halloween this year, Kim Kardashian decided to show off her love of different female musicians with an assortment of costumes portraying famous singers, from Cher to Selena. However, it was her decision to dress up as Aaliyah that led to backlash on social media. Now the reality television star is apologizing for any upset she caused and explaining exactly why she chose to dress up as all of the different singers.
According to E! News, Kim Kardashian was not trying to upset anyone or spark any sort of backlash by dressing up as any of the singers. While there was certainly plenty of talk about her different Halloween costumes, it was the decision to dress up as Aaliyah that got so many of her fans and followers talking. This has led to Kardashian posting an apology on her website.
In her statement, Kim Kardashian said that she believed that “Aaliyah was such an amazing singer and she will forever be a music legend.” It is this admiration for the singer that led to her decision to come up with a costume to honor her memory. Kardashian said that she was not even thinking about things such as racial or cultural appropriation when she was putting her Aaliyah outfit together for Halloween.

Kim Kardashian said that after she wore the costume, she saw online that there were a lot of people who were upset with her decision to dress like Aaliyah, with many saying that her choice was “in poor taste.” In response to those people, the reality star said, “I am truly sorry if that offended anyone.”
While people may have been upset about her Halloween costume, Kim Kardashian explained that in her home all different genres of music are played, and she wants her children to “be exposed to many different artists.” For her, getting the opportunity to portray these singers, even just as part of a Halloween costume, is all about offering “love and respect” to these artists. Simply put, her family was trying to pay homage to the different artists that they respect and appreciate.
Although Kim Kardashian may have been trying to honor Aaliyah with her costume inspired by the singer’s music video for “Try Again,” it unfortunately missed the mark with many people who felt that she was simply appropriating another race. However, with this apology, the reality star hopes to not only explain the reasoning behind her decision to dress up as the singer, but also make amends for upsetting people unintentionally.
