WWE Rumors: ‘SmackDown Live’ Considering Double Turn For Two Superstars

The WWE has a number of superstars that seem to drift along with nothing planned and no direction when it comes to the booking of their characters. The one thing that made SmackDown Live different than Monday Night Raw was that it was where superstars who seemed directionless could find a new direction. According to Dave Meltzer (via Sportskeeda), it looks like the WWE is considering a double turn for two of their mid-card superstars — Rusev and Tye Dillinger.

Rusev

When looking at WWE superstars who seem to deserve a much bigger push than they receive, Rusev stands at the front of the line. While he was, at one time, the biggest monster heel on Monday Night Raw, he ended up in a feud with John Cena, who beat him and Rusev was never the same.

Eventually, the WWE pushed Rusev into a pairing with Sheamus, Wade Barrett, and Alberto Del Rio as an anti-American faction. According to Barrett, the faction existed with the sole purpose of putting Roman Reigns over as a babyface, and none of them outside of Sheamus received any push of their own.

Rusev fell to injury and then ended up traded to SmackDown Live with his manager and wife, Lana. However, instead of pushing him when he came back from injury, the WWE made Lana a wrestler on her own and had Rusev feud with John Cena and then Randy Orton — losing both feuds.

Despite this, Meltzer pointed out that more and more fans are cheering for Rusev. For one thing, he has a lot more charisma than his character has displayed, and fans are seeing that this season on Total Divas. While on the tour of South and Central America, Rusev even came out dressed like the Usos in a fun moment.

The idea, according to Meltzer, is that the WWE might work on a face turn for Rusev, and they are considering aligning it with a heel turn for Tye Dillinger.

Tye Dillinger

Tye Dillinger has been with the WWE for longer than almost anyone main eventing in the company right now. However, he spent almost his entire career in the developmentals before finally arriving at the Royal Rumble this year to huge fan excitement, as they all chanted “10” with him.

Dillinger made his way to SmackDown Live but wrestled in some minor matches and has been missing from television more often than not. Fans still chant “10” when he is in the ring, but the lack of a push by the WWE has killed all his momentum.

One might wonder how a babyface like Tye Dillinger could turn heel successfully, but the success of Sami Zayn as a heel is a perfect template for Dillinger, who could do the exact same thing he does now, but toward faces, making him a hated man.

Dave Meltzer reports that this double turn by Rusev and Tye Dillinger is possible and could happen soon on SmackDown Live.
