‘Twitter Serial Killer’ Stored 9 Dismembered Bodies In Coolers Covered In Kitty Litter
It was a house of horror, in every sense of the term, when police entered an apartment of a suspect they had traced down while investigating just one missing woman. They got more than one missing person case solved when the body parts of nine people were discovered. The eight females and one male had been chopped up and put in separate coolers inside a very small apartment in Tokyo, Japan.
Takahiro Shiraishi, 27, told police that he killed all nine people within the last two months and he kept their body parts stored in his apartment because if he had discarded the bodies, he feared he would be caught. He was also forthcoming with the motives of these killings, according to police in Tokyo, Japan. The South China Morning Post reports that Shiraishi used Twitter to lure in his victims. The name one of his multiple Twitter accounts was “hangingpro.”
“Rape” and “money” were the motives for some of the killings of these nine people, who allegedly died at the hands of Shiraishi, according to police. He had stolen about $4,500 from one victim. He confessed to the killings and admitted to the police that the money and rape were his reasons for the killings, according to the Mirror.
Shiraishi met the victims online through one of his several Twitter accounts and each of these victims had expressed thoughts of suicide. Shiraishi lured the victims to his apartment with offers of helping them die, which is what he told police. Some of these victims had expressed their fears of dying alone and it is thought this man made them believe he was there to help.
It was when police were investigating the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman that Shiraishi came into their scope. After the family of the woman filed a missing person report, her brother started investigating her online activity and social media accounts. He found a chilling message his sister had posted online that said, “looking for someone who will die with me.”

She had also said that she “wants to die, but is scared of dying alone,” according to the Mirror. This young woman was part of Shiraishi’s killing spree, which took place between August and September, according to police. Shiraishi moved into a small studio apartment in August and the killings started as soon as he had moved into his new home.
According to The Independent, the dismembered bodies were in cold storage containers in his apartment and some were covered in cat litter. This gruesome case is far from over. Although Shiraishi has made a full confession, police are working to try to identify the bodies found “chopped up” inside that apartment.
Shiraishi gave police all the graphic details of his horrendous deeds, like how he befriended the victims on Twitter. He dismembered the bodies in the bathroom and he used a saw to do this, which police have located. Police are in the process of clearing out this apartment, but according to the Mirror, they’ve already recovered 240 bones along with two severed heads.

While Shiraishi had many of the body parts stored in his apartment, he did discard some parts in the garbage, which is probably what the neighbors had reported smelling when interviewed after he was taken into custody.
Police describe finding the bodies “chopped up” and they were being stored in “separate coolers.” A neighbor told reporters that he “smelled something odd from the apartment” back in August. He said “it smelled like sewage,” but it was a smell he couldn’t quite distinguish, as it was an odor unlike anything he ever smelled before.
Shiraishi’s arrest came after he was seen on CCTV with the missing girl while walking near his apartment. He was taken into custody on charges of “suspicion of abandoning a body but more charges could follow,” after he confessed to it all. He has been handed over to prosecutors for more questioning, reports The Independent.
The Independent reports the nation’s attention is on this case, as Japan is known for its public safety.
