Brad Pitt And Ella Purnell’s ‘Sweetbitter’ May Be Your Next Addiction

Stephanie Danler’s bestselling novel Sweetbitter is coming to the small screen. With a stellar cast and award-winning team of writers, Brad Pitt and Ella Purnell’s new series might be one of the next big shows for Starz. From the show’s latest castings to plot news, here’s everything we know about Sweetbitter.

According to Showbiz Junkies, Starz just confirmed a number of series regulars. Apart from Ella Purnell as the main character, Tess, Tom Sturridge from The Hollow Crown will appear as Jake, Paul Sparks of House of Cards will portray Howard, and Caitlin Fitzgerald of Masters of Sex will play Simone. Other series regulars include the likes of Evan Jonigkeit (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Eden Epstein (In Between Men), Jasmine Matthews (Blue Bloods), and Daniyar (Claws).

Sweetbitter is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Stephanie Danler. The first season will be comprised of six episodes. Richard Shepard, known for his work on Criminal Minds and Girls, is set to direct the pilot and will help produce alongside The Americans’ Stu Zicherman and Danler, who also helped write the pilot.

The series centers on the story of Tess and her coming-of-age in New York City. The story begins with Tess getting a job at a high-end restaurant in New York. She then gets wrapped up in a world of drinking, drugs, lust, and love as she tries to navigate through her new life. Purnell, who plays Tess, is known for her roles in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Never Let Me Go.

While Sweetbitter is setting itself up for a big first season, Danler recently admitted that she had a hard time accepting her novel’s success. Before the book became a best-seller, Danler was working at a restaurant and trying to finish school. Once Sweetbitter started flying off the shelves, the author admitted that it took some time for her to accept what was happening.

In addition to an amazing cast, Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, will be producing the first season. Apart from Danler, Stu Zicherman (The Affair) will help take on some of the writing duties.

Starz has not yet announced an official premiere date for the first season of Bittersweet.
