‘DWTS’: Val Chmerkovskiy Reveals How Brother Maksim & Vanessa Lachey Are Doing After Feud
Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy is speaking out and revealing how his brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy is doing with partner Vanessa Lachey after various reports claimed that the two have been locked in a nasty feud over the past few weeks.
After it was revealed that Val and Maksim will be teaming up with their celebrity partners for the infamous team routines round on October 30, Val revealed how his brother and Vanessa have really been getting along in the wake of all the drama.
“I never want to battle it out with [Maksim], but I don’t necessarily want him on my team either,” Val revealed to Entertainment Tonight this week of teaming up with his brother. They’ll be part of Team Phantom of the Opera alongside their partners Vanessa and Victoria Arlen, as well as Frankie Muniz, Witney Carson, Drew Scott, and Emma Slater.
But it sounds like Chmerkovskiy is actually pretty excited to get to dancing with both his brother and Vanessa during the upcoming group dances, which is set to take place next week during the Halloween themed show.
“Maks is great,” Val said of how his brother and fellow DWTS pro is doing. “He definitely adds to the team and most importantly he adds Vanessa to our team.”
Val then appeared to touch on the feud reports that have been swirling around Maksim and Vanessa over the past few weeks, but didn’t explicitly mention the alleged DWTS drama.
Though he avoided directly mentioning a feud, Val hinted that all their drama is now water under the bridge after several sources claimed that the two had been seriously butting heads behind the scenes recently.
“I think we have a great comraderie,” he said of how they’re all learning to work together, hinting at the drama between Maks and Vanessa by then adding, “and everyone’s awesome.”
Chmerkovskiy also spoke out about his sister-in-law Peta Murgatroyd and her partner, Vanessa’s husband Nick Lachey, being eliminated during the October 23 episode of DWTS and joked that he’ll now be getting Peta and Nick’s share of the votes going forward.
“I’m happy to see everyone go the distance, but it’s also nice to have her not stress about this season and enjoy,” he told the outlet this week when asked about seeing Peta sent home, joking, “definitely her votes will go to me now, thanks.”
Makism and Vanessa were hit with various reports claiming they were caught in a feud after Chmerkovskiy failed to turn up to dance with his partner for the October 2 live show. Lachey instead danced with stand-in pro Alan Bersten.
While it was claimed by the hosts that Maks was missing from the ballroom due to a “personal issue,” E! News alleged that he and his partner were really not getting along in the rehearsal room.
“Their personalities have completely clashed and they really don’t get along off set,” a DWTS source said of the two, adding that both have such big personalities that they just “can’t find middle ground.”
Chmerkovskiy and Lachey both denied the allegations of drama behind the scenes at Dancing with the Stars, though Maks appeared to confirm that he and his dancing partner did have just a little drama earlier this season that they’ve been working on.
“It’s a tough show… when you’re good enough to make it all the way, you go through that much more stuff,” Maksim told Us Weekly earlier this week when asked to elaborate on their apparent backstage feud.
“We’re a great couple,” he added, “we’re doing our best.”
Dancing with the Stars Season 25 airs on ABC on Monday nights.
