Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Is Certified Fresh On Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things returns this weekend for Season 2, and the critics are loving it, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s no surprise that Netflix’s sci-fi summer hit of 2016 got a second season, and from what the critics are saying, it was definitely worth the wait.

In the reviews aggregated on the popular critic site Rotten Tomatoes, it is currently sitting at 91 percent with over 30 reviews entered onto the site. Out of the 35 reviews that have been counted toward the score, only three of them were rotten.

Stranger Things Season 2 has critics telling the audience that it should reserve expectations to ensure a satisfying watch.

“–as it stands, we’ll have to settle for almost great,” said Richard Owens of the Wrap. Most of the reviewers share a similar sentiment. While they did enjoy the new Stranger Things season, they all had criticism regarding the first few episodes.

Kevin Fallon from the the Daily Beast had issues regarding the pacing of the show along with its plot. Regardless of the inconsistent pacing, most reviewers can’t help, but talk about how fun the show still is.

Empire Magazine’s Jimi Famurewa was especially enthusiastic about how the Duffer Brothers, creators of the show, continue to spark interest in the mysterious disappearing of Will in the first season. He talks about the expanding world of Stranger Things, connecting it to other towns in the country, and how that will inform the inter-dimensional war at the heart of the show.

Famurewa also mentions there is an episode in particular that serves mostly as a diversion from the actual plot of the show. It could be interpreted that the Stranger Things writers take their time to really engage the mystery of why Will can see into the “Upside Down” world still.

Alan Sepinwall of Uproxx had his expectations met and said that the sequel mostly matches the hype of the original. He explained that the second season built its foundation largely from its own world rather than the nostalgia it used in the original.

Not everyone was a fan of this second season, though, as Entertainment Weekly’s Darren Franich had expressed his dislike of The Duffer Brothers foray into more original writing. He said that the “karaoke” style approach that made Stranger Things exciting had been lost in favor of what he calls an “extra fanfictional step” in their approach this season, considering the remix on 80s nostalgia is what brought them their success.

Though from the gathering of all the reviews, it seems that Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 2 is promising to be just as engaging as its first season.
