Before WrestleMania 33 , AJ Styles lost the WWE Title to John Cena at the WWE Royal Rumble and began a huge rivalry with Shane McMahon. At the time, the WWE Universe wasn’t happy about The Phenomenal One taking a backseat on the grandest stage of them all. Despite their match being well received and proved to be a good opener for the show. The fans are expecting something bigger for AJ this year in New Orleans.
Recently, Styles made it clear that he wants to challenge Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship sooner rather than later. It’s been almost a year since he lost the title, but Styles hasn’t received his rematch. It has been reported that WWE officials are planning for John Cena to challenge Mahal for the WWE Title in New Orleans next year at WrestleMania 34 , which means there is something else being planned for AJ Styles.
The Phenomenal One has not been shy about wanting to face Shinsuke Nakamura on the grandest stage of them all. WWE officials may be planning Cena vs. Mahal for the WWE Title for WrestleMania 34 next year, but a new report is claiming that the powers that be are booking Nakamura vs. Styles for the event as well.
Historically, their first big match at Wrestle Kingdom 10 gave both men incredible reputations as they both made the jump from New Japan to WWE. With both men signed, it was only a matter of time before Styles and Nakamura crossed paths. Apparently, AJ asked for a brief battle during the Money in the Bank Ladder Match this year to show Vince McMahon how special a rematch between Nakamura and Styles could be.
Unless creative plans change over the coming months like they did last year, it seems that Vince McMahon sees the potential of their rematch and “The King of Strong Style” will finally wrestle The Phenomenal One on the grandest stage of them all. The last time these two men had a singles match during a big event, they changed the industry. Expectations will be high, but it’s very likely that Nakamura vs. Styles II will be able to live up to the hype and deliver something truly special that the WWE Universe has never seen before.
