‘Mob Psycho 100’ OVA Anime Episode, Live-Action Stage Play In Manga Announcement: MP100 Season 2 Far Away?
Anime fans may want Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 to come quickly, but their hunger for new episodes will have to be sated with the announcement of a new Mob Psycho 100 OVA episode. There’s also plenty of MP100 projects being announced, including a Mob Psycho 100 live-action TV show for Netflix and a stage play that will feature at least one of original anime cast.
The anime studio Bones first teased the 2018 anime project during the Bones Night film screening event held during the summer of 2017. At the time, it was uncertain whether the “new Mob Psycho project” would be a movie, an OVA episode, or the second season. During Machi Asobi 2017, Bones noted, “Mob Psycho 100‘s 15th volume is getting released on October 19, and the cover will feature some sort of ‘new information.'”
Unfortunately, the announcement was only partially focused on the anime. The wraparound jacket on the MP100 manga announced a new stage play for The Galaxy Theater in Tokyo. Voice actor Setsuo Ito, who plays as Mob in the anime, will reprise his role as the main character in the 2018 play. The stage play will run from January 6th through the 14th in 2018.
The big anime announcement was that Bones is indeed releasing a new Mob Psycho 100 OVA anime episode. Volume 15 revealed that the first OVA screening takes place at an anime event at Chiba’s Maihama Amphitheater on March 18, 2018.
Not much is known about the story for the OVA except that it will feature Mob’s master, Reigen, in the leading role. It’s possible the OVA will be an anime original story since the manga chapters involving Reigen are often integral to character development in the main plot. Called Mob Psycho 100 Reigen: Shirarezaru Kiseki Rein?ryokusha (Mob Psycho 100 Reigen: The Miraculous Unknown Psychic), the anime short has Reigen contemplating writing an autobiography.
Separately, TV Tokyo announced that they would be producing a live-action Mob Psycho 100 TV show for Netflix. The titular character Mob is going to be played by 17-year-old Tatsuomi Hamada, who is currently playing Ultraman. Koichi Sakamoto of Power Rangers fame will be the director.

Anime fans were hoping that the MP100 manga announcement was going to be for Mob Psycho 100 Season 2. Even if the second season is still being planned for the future, Sakugabooru writer liborek believes it’s not going to be released anytime soon.
“[I]f more Mob is happening it’s still very far away, anyway,” liborek explained during the summer. “Minami basically only hinted there are plans for more.”
Bones has already announced what anime projects its lettered studios are currently working on at this time. Studio A is scheduled to produce the A.I.C.O. Incarnation anime for Netflix. Studio B is currently airing the Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond anime. Studio C recently began production of My Hero Academia Season 3. Studio D is making a new anime movie called Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple. Studio E is planning a film trilogy for the Eureka Seven: Hi – Evolution anime series.
Studio B handled the first season of MP100, but it’s uncertain if they are producing the OVA episode. Bones is also planning to produce an original anime TV show for release in the spring of 2018, but Bones has not yet announced the title. Let’s just hope Bones finds a way to make time for Mob Psycho 100 Season 2!
