A Beached Whale In New York [Breaking]

Now here’s something you don’t see every day.

Police say a whale has washed ashore in Queens in New York City. The beached humpback whale was reported around noon ET. The whale washed up on Beach 216th Street & Palmer Drive in Queens and was reported around 10:30 am.

New York Police Department (NYPD) officers and personnel from Riverhead Foundation responded to the scene. According to Gothamist.com, the Coast Guard reports the 40-foot whale was still alive as of noon ET. The Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department is currently pumping seawater on the whale to keep it alive.

According to local news crews, the whale might be pregnant, says the New York Daily News.

Volunteer Ed Manley, one of the rescuers said:

“It’s a beautiful whale. I think she’s carrying a baby. It’s a shame. I hope we can save her.”

Paul O’Donnell, a plumber, said:

“I’ve never seen a whale like that … a day after Christmas, that’s pretty wild.”

More details to be released.
