Some may feel as if there are enough championships in WWE, but if one Hall of Famer is to be believed, there will be at least one more. As the women’s division in WWE continues to get bigger and stronger with each passing month, there may end up being a need for more than two belts to spread around. With female superstars having a Money in the Bank briefcase, Hell in a Cell match, and being in the main event, why not a tag team championship as well?
Lita is a former four-time WWE Women’s Champion who was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 2014. She hasn’t been in the ring in quite some time, but she still has a lot to do with the company and even recently called the Mae Young Classic next to the iconic Jim Ross.
Knowing all of that, she is still in the know with many of the things happening in wrestling, and she may have given away a bit more than she should have.
As reported by Give Me Sport , Lita recently participated in a Q&A session in Paris, France, and there were a number of great inquiries thrown at her. One of those questions included the idea of a women’s tag division and championship being added to WWE, and she most certainly didn’t deny that it could happen.
Not only does Lita like the idea of having a women’s tag division, but she spoiled the fact that WWE has been looking into it.
“There has been talks of tag titles for the Women’s Division, and I think that I love that they first introduced the MITB briefcase, that’s been a long time coming and that adds an element of surprise within the title picture.”
That would be huge for WWE to introduce a Women’s Tag Team Championship, but it wouldn’t be the first time. Back in May of 1983, Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria were recognized as the first ever WWF Women’s Tag Team Champions after the promotion separated from the NWA.
By early 1989, the titles were vacated and abandoned, with The Glamour Girls being the last team to hold them.
If WWE were to bring back titles now, almost 30 years after they were last held by anyone, there would need to be a bigger women’s roster. Lita believes the same thing, but she knows that there are more than enough women on the NXT roster to make a tag division work.
“I would love to see these rumored tag titles appear sooner than later, but for that to happen, I hope they bring up these women that are already at NXT or some women they’ve seen on the Mae Young Classic and expand the roster.”
Over the course of the last few months, there have been a lot more women’s tag team matches on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live . It does truly seem as if WWE could be moving toward a women’s tag team division and Women’s Tag Team Championship, but only time will tell. Lita did say that the promotion was talking about it, but as we all know with wrestling, things can change at any time.
