Giada De Laurentiis On Her Spatula To Benefit No Kid Hungry, Working With Williams Sonoma, And Upcoming Work

A popular chef, author, and television personality, Giada De Laurentiis is one of the most recognizable people associated with the Food Network. The winner of both a Daytime Emmy and a Gracie Award, De Laurentiis is also an inductee into the Culinary Hall Of Fame. As if those roles, honors, and accomplishments were not enough, the Le Cordon Bleu-schooled De Laurentiis is also the founder of the catering business GDL Foods and the namesake of the Cromwell Hotel restaurant Giada in Las Vegas.

This year, De Laurentiis was one of the celebrities asked to get involved with the collaboration between No Kid Hungry and Williams Sonoma. A benefit aimed to battle children hunger in the U.S., celebrities were asked to design spatulas. Also participating besides De Laurentiis were Kristen Bell, Neil Patrick Harris, Questlove, Jeff Bridges, Bobby Flay, Faith Hill, and Alton Brown. Williams Sonoma is donating 30 percent of the retail price of each limited-edition spatula sold, plus $5,000 on behalf of the designer whose spatula sells out first.

On behalf of the Inquisitr, I had the pleasure of conducting a Q&A with Giada De Laurentiis. As discovered within the interview, De Laurentiis has another restaurant in the works, in addition to a book and a line of products with the aforementioned Williams Sonoma. More information on these projects — including the spatula benefiting No Kid Hungry — can be found at www.giadzy.com and/or www.giadadelaurentiis.com.

How did you first get involved with No Kid Hungry and its William-Sonoma collaboration?

Giada De Laurentiis: I’ve been involved with No Kid Hungry for a while and am currently working on food collaborations with Williams Sonoma, so it seemed like a natural fit to be part of the spatula campaign.

How would you describe the design of the spatula you put together?

Giada De Laurentiis: It’s Italy — in a spatula!

No Kid Hungry work aside, what’s coming up for you in your career? Another book?

Giada De Laurentiis: Yes! I just finished photographing another book based in my hometown, Rome. It’s a beautiful cookbook full of yummy recipes and coming out in 2018. I can’t wait to share it with you guys!

Is there a career accomplishment that you are most proud of?

Giada De Laurentiis: I think being one of the first women to open a restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip is definitely a career accomplishment I’m proud of. I’m also currently working on opening my second restaurant on the Strip, so keep an eye out for it!

When not busy with your career, how do you like to spend your free time? Any surprising hobbies?

Giada De Laurentiis: I try to spend any free time I have with my daughter Jade. She’s growing up so fast! I’m not sure you would call it a hobby, but I’ve recently become really good at making “slime” with Jade. It’s her favorite — and messiest — new thing to make and play with! She even made a “how-to” slime video that you can check out on my website Giadzy: https://giadzy.com/posts/food/how-to/447584/how-to-make-slime-the-easy-way.

Finally, what was the last concert you attended for fun?

Giada De Laurentiis: I’m not the biggest country fan, but I went to a Garth Brooks concert for my friend’s birthday. It was actually super-fun!
