Bette Midler Rumor: Actress May Appear On ‘Glee’
Actress Bette Midler is rumored to be among the many celebrities being considered for guest spots on upcoming episides of Glee, according to Access Hollywood.
During a recent interview, Midler explained she is interested in appearing on the popular television musical. All she’s waiting on is a phone call from the show’s producer Ryan Murphy.
“I don’t know. He never called me,” the actress explained during a press junket for Parental Guidance. “He mentioned it, but … I’m still waiting for the call. But, it’s fine!”
Should Midler find herself on the set of Glee, the actress is hoping she gets to tackle a role that’s similar to the one actress Jane Lynch embodies on a regular basis.
“I love her. She’s hilarious,” Bette Midler said. “Maybe I could play [Sue’s] evil sister!”
Cover Media reports that the actress accepted Glee producer Ryan Murphy’s offer to appear on the acclaimed show at a recent industry event. While giving a speech, Murphy decided to extend the offer directly to Midler himself.
“He said [in his speech], ‘If Bette Midler’s in the house I want to invite her onto ‘Glee.’ And I went, ‘OK!’ ” Midler said.
After the event, Ryan Murphy headed to Twitter to express his excitement over the idea. He said he was working around the clock to develop a character specifically for Midler to tackle. Unfortunately, it’s unknown when or if the actress will appear on the program.
In the meantime, Bette Midler can be found alongside Billy Crystal in director Andy Fickman’s comedy Parental Guidance. The film, which also stars Marisa Tomei and Tom Everett Scott, is presently slated to hit theaters on December 25.
New episodes of the hit FOX series are scheduled to begin on January 10, 2013.
