‘Biggest Loser’ Allegedly Canceled Over Accusations From Former Contestant
The Biggest Loser is a show many indulged in as their guilty pleasure. The results from the contestants were amazing, and the coaches became famous for what they were able to accomplish. Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels were both synonymous with The Biggest Loser for over a decade. While Season 18 was expected at some point this year, it appears that is no longer going to be the case.
Last year, a lawsuit was filed against a former contestant and a publication by a doctor from The Biggest Loser. Joelle Gwynn spoke out about her experience on the weight loss competition show, and it wasn’t flattering for anyone on the show. Accusations about drug usage were flying, especially regarding the trainers pushing them on the contestants. According to Starcasm, The Biggest Loser has been canceled despite there not being an official announcement made by NBC. This isn’t surprising to anyone who has been following the year-long battle. It was also alleged that the contestants were forced to exercise excessively and were encouraged to take in way less than the recommended calories. Gwynn spoke out about it, and the doctor from the show filed a lawsuit against her to clear his name.
Right now, there is very little information about whether or not The Biggest Loser will go forward or if it is canceled for certain. NBC had a huge hit with the competition-based show. A loyal following tuned in season after season to support the people who struggled with their weight. Watching them succeed was a highlight of the show, but with all of the allegations surrounding the practices encouraged by the staff, that ship has sailed. There is no clear indication about who is telling the truth, and if Joelle Gwynn’s account of what happened to her is accurate, there are going to be a lot of issues going forward.
The claims are that Joelle Gwynn and her accusations are the reason The Biggest Loser was canceled and the reason for the doctor in question losing two other television opportunities. Right now, NBC is staying quiet about what is going on as the lawsuit is still moving through the court system. Gwynn is standing by her account of what happened while she was on The Biggest Loser and has responded to the lawsuit by asking that the case be dismissed and asking for attorney fees in conjunction with having to be represented.
