Murray Routes Frenchman Benoit Paire For Quarterfinals Round In The Wimbledon 2017 Men’s Open Championships
Andy Murray disposes of Frenchman Benoit Paire to reach the Wimbledon Men’s Open Championships. Paire threatened to take the first set when he led 4-2 but was eventually put off by Murray’s advances to the net and hitting winners. Murray struggled in the opening set trailing Benoit’s balls when the Frenchman showed erratic groundstrokes giving away points that settled in a tiebreaker. Murray opened the first set tiebreaker in six to zero unanswered blasts finishing the game tiebreaker at 7-6 (7-1).
The Wimbledon crowd saw some exciting exchanges in the match. It was not an easy win in the second set with Paire but it gave Murray two sets up against the Frenchman. Paire had Murray running all over the court with his reliable placements credited to his topspin two-handed backhand. But it is always the erratic forehand that gives him away. It always breaks down on wasted shots when it is needed. Paire has the weakest forehand in the tour among male entries, reports The Telegraph.
The third set displayed the same pattern giving the same results and score. The match ended with Murray victorious over the Frenchman with a 7-6 (1), 6-4, 6-4 that took Murray two hours and 21 minutes to finish. Paire had been struggling throughout the match against the defending champion, making easy work of the competition.
Another match for the quarterfinal rounds is between Rafael Nadal and Gilles Muller. The grueling five setter match lasted for four hours and 48 minutes as Muller upsets the Wimbledon 2017 fourth seed from Spain. Mueller from Luxembourg is seeded number 16 in the tournament’s draw, reports The Guardian.
The deciding and winning point for Muller left him a blank stare at Nadal as if not believing his hard-won victory that earned him a slot in the quarterfinals round. The final score was 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 15-13 in favor of Muller.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon third seed Roger Federer marches through his 15th Wimbledon quarterfinal with ease at the expense of thirteenth seed, Grigor Dimitrov, from Bulgaria. The match between Federer and Dimitrov lasted for 98 minutes with a final score of 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. Federer will be facing the sixth seed, Milos Raonic of Canada, in the quarterfinal round. Raonic was Federer’s tormentor in last year’s semi-final round.
Other players who made it to the quarterfinal rounds are Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic over eighth seed Dominic Thiem of Austria, 24th seed Sam Querrey of the United States over Kevin Anderson from South Africa, and seventh seed Marin Cilic of Croatia over 18th seed Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.
