It’s been almost two years since the daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston passed away, but Bobbi Kristina Brown’s father is making sure her legacy lives on.
The musician took to Instagram on Thursday to share a portrait of his daughter and urged followers to honor Bobbi Kristina by supporting the non-profit organization he founded in her name.
“My Angel My???? FOLLOW @bobbikristinaserenityhouse and join the movement,” Brown captioned the image.
As the Inquisitr previously noted, the New Edition singer founded the initiative in Bobbi Kristina’s memory in 2015.
The Bobbi Kristina Serenity House , based in Los Angeles, not only raises awareness about domestic violence but also offers resources, including housing and 24-hour counseling for victims.
On January 31, 2015, Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in a bathtub at the Georgia home she shared with her boyfriend, Nick Gordon. She was transported to a nearby hospital, but because extensive damage had already been done to her brain due to the time she was in the tub without oxygen, she was placed in a medically-induced coma. Six months later, she was taken off life support and pronounced dead on July 26, 2015. The circumstances surrounding her death drew eerie comparisons to her famous mother, who was found dead in a bathtub three years earlier in a hotel suite at the Beverly Hilton.
Following Houston’s death, Gordon, who was taken in by the legendary singer when he was a child, announced publicly that he and Bobbi Kristina were dating. Soon after, reports surfaced that there was trouble between the young couple and that they had a tumultuous relationship.
Several of Kristina Brown’s family members, including her father, blamed Gordon for what happened to her and accused him of staging the scene the day she was found unresponsive. They claimed that after physically assaulting the 22-year-old, he gave her a “toxic cocktail” and then placed her in the tub. While Gordon was never criminally charged in the case, a court found that he was liable for the death and ordered him to pay $36 million to Bobbi Kristina’s estate.
Just last month, E! News reported that Gordon was arrested for alleged domestic violence battery against his girlfriend, Laura Leal. A judge ruled that the 28-year-old stay away from her and wear a GPS monitor until his next scheduled court appearance.
Gordon has denied striking Leal and has always maintained that he had nothing to do with Bobbi Kristina’s death.
