Patton Oswalt Is Engaged To Meredith Salenger 14 Months After Wife’s Death
Actor/comedian Patton Oswalt is engaged to his new lady love, actress Meredith Salenger. Oswalt’s representative has confirmed the news, which Salenger announced through a photo collage on Instagram.
The 48-year-old The King of Queens actor also shared the relationship milestone with his Twitter followers on Thursday.
“I put the ring in a marzipan Slave I replica and said, ‘Will you be my Padawan of Love?'” Oswalt teased.
“She maced me but said yes later.”
Prior to the couple’s announcement that they are engaged, Oswalt and Salenger had been sending signals that they would soon be walking down the aisle. Salenger, 47, hinted about being a bride with an old photo of herself catching the bouquet at a friend’s wedding.
“Once upon a time… in 2008… at my friend’s wedding… I caught the bouquet #fairytalesdoexist.”
Oswalt also teased that he and Salenger had taken their relationship to the next level.
“Aw, it’s like we’re already married!” he tweet-replied Salenger on Monday.
Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger made their first public appearance as a couple last month at the premiere of Baby Driver in Los Angeles. Meredith is the first woman Patton has dated publicly since his late wife, journalist and true crime writer Michelle McNamara, died tragically and suddenly in April of 2016. Oswalt and McNamara have an 8-year-old daughter, Alice Rigney.

The star of Netflix’s Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping has talked candidly about his wife’s unexpected death and the overwhelming grief he has dealt with since her passing. On the first anniversary of McNamara’s death, Oswalt recalled the day she died and shared that he had finally removed his wedding band.
“I couldn’t bear removing it since April 21st 2016, but now it felt obscene,” the comedian wrote in a lengthy Facebook note.
“Removing the ring was removing the last symbol of denial of who I was now, and what my life is, and what my responsibilities are.”
Oswalt and Salenger have reportedly been dating for several months. The two have not shied away from expressing their love for each other on their Twitter and Instagram feeds. An insider told People that the relationship is “new” and that the couple are “very happy.”
“They met through mutual friend Martha Plimpton. They started chatting as friends and it blossomed from there.”
Salenger graduated from Harvard and is best known for her title role in the 1985 Disney film The Journey of Natty Gann. She has appeared in a number of TV shows and films, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cold Case, and Hollywood Heights.
In February, Oswalt revealed that coroner’s officials had informed him that his wife had died due to a combination of an undiagnosed heart condition and a cocktail of prescription medications. He said that he and McNamara had not been aware that there was something wrong with her heart. She died in her sleep and was found dead by Oswalt.
