Kristen Stewart Confirms She Is Starring Opposite Ben Affleck In ‘Focus’
News that Kristen Stewart was positioning for a lead role opposite Ben Affleck in grifter rom-com Focus came down the wire at the beginning of last month.
Now, that talk has solidified into certainty after comments from the lady herself.
“I can confirm that rumor,” Stewart toldHuffington Post Entertainment when asked if rumors that she has signed on for Focus were true.
The actress added,
“It’s a comedy. I’m really excited about it. We start shooting in April.”
Backed by Warner Bros., in a nutshellFocus tells the story of “an inexperienced con artist who hooks up with the more seasoned Affleck.”
Written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa — whose previous hit together was Crazy, Stupid, Love — a comedy piece will be quite a sea change for Stewart after the melodrama of the Twilight Saga films and the intensity of her latest film, On The Road.
With the last — and highest earning — installment of the Twilight franchise now in the bag, the 22-year-old is presently making the awards circuit rounds for On The Road.
Directed by Walter Salles and adapted from Jack Kerouac’s eponymous beat generation classic, Stewart has been out and about at almost consecutive screenings of the film as the countdown to its December 21 limited release continues.
“Best Supporting Actress” talk is in the air for Stewart for her portrayal of the wild spirited Marylou — which, in itself, is high praise — but nothing’s set in stone.
As for Affleck, he’s already gone on the record, publicly calling his future co-star a “terrific” actress.
For the 40-year-old actor-director, 2012 has been nothing short of a momentous year. Argo crossed $100,000,000 domestic box office last weekend and the Iranian hostage crisis thriller has been critically acclaimed around the world.
A clear contender for “Best Picture” Oscar hopes, many industry watchers believe this awards season race is one of most exciting for years — simply because of the sheer range of films in contention.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Stewart and Affleck are brought together in April 2013.
Do you think they will make good on-screen romantic, sparring partners, or not?
