Michael Bay Claims That After ‘Transformers: The Last Knight,’ He’s Done With The Franchise
Many have wondered just how long the Transformers movie franchise will continue, and as long as it is making money, they’ll keep making more of them. The only thing is that from this point forward, they may be doing it without the man who made the five films possible. Michael Bay is now saying that after Transformers: The Last Knight, he is officially done with the franchise and is moving on to different things.
Of course, people need to remember that Bay said this exact same thing after the third (Dark of the Moon) and fourth (Age of Extinction) films in the Transformers franchise, but he returned anyway. As reported by Fandango, Transformers: The Last Knight is set to hit theaters, and it is being labeled as the “final chapter,” which it isn’t. However, it definitely is for Bay.
Bay spoke with Fandango about his next release, and he said that he’s simply exhausted from making these movies. He’s ready to move on to other things, and he confirms this will be his final time working with giant robots.
Of course, all of that remains to be seen, but this could be the last time that Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and others are battling on the big screen.
While everything could change, Michael Bay told Fandango that he’s enjoyed it but simply doesn’t have it in him anymore.
“These movies that I’ve done, they are massive movies. They take a lot out of you. I’ve done it enough, and I’ve had a great time doing it. I’m going out with a bang on this one, and I feel like you gotta go out while you’re ahead, you know. I think I’ve had a good run, and I’ve got a lot of other movies I want to do.”
Throughout his 10-year span of making movies about giant robots, Michael Bay has only made two other films, 13 Hours and Pain & Gain. Bay is set to be the producer for Bumblebee (spin-off) and a possible seventh Transformers movie, but only time will tell.
Don’t forget that last year, Paramount announced the release dates for three more films in the franchise, with The Last Knight being the first. As reported by Cosmic Book News, the other two are set to come out in consecutive years.
- Transformers 6 (Bumblebee spin-off) – June 8, 2018
- Transformers 7 – June 28, 2019
Transformers: The Last Knight is due to be the fifth and final chapter in a franchise that has now spanned a full decade. The movies have made a lot of money for all of those involved, and if this new film makes a lot at the box office, Michael Bay may reconsider ending the series. Regardless of whether there are more Transformers movies in him, it does finally seem as if Bay has had enough and wants to move on.
