Lenny Kravitz’ Secret Engagement To Nicole Kidman Explained By His Daughter ‘Big Little Lies’ Star Zoe Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz was briefly engaged to Nicole Kidman back in the day. This fact that was truly one of the best-kept secrets in the entertainment industry at the time, and nearly 15 years later, the “Are You Gonna Go My Way” rocker’s daughter, Zoe Kravitz, opened up about almost having the Oscar-winning actress as a stepmother.

In a new interview with the digital magazine The Edit, Zoe, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Cosby Show alum Lisa Bonet, detailed her famous father’s romance with Kidman, who now happens to be her co-star in the HBO series, Big Little Lies. In the interview, Lenny’s daughter revealed that when she was 11-years-old, the singer’s then-girlfriend Nicole relocated with her father to Miami, and at one point, the actress lived with them.

“I hadn’t seen her in a long time before Big Little Lies, but there was a point where we were all kind of living together,” Kravitz told the Edit of Kidman, according to ET Online. “I was about 13, and she would take me to see movies; she was so nice to me.”

Earlier this year, Nicole Kidman made headlines when she revealed that she already knew Zoe Kravitz before working with her on Big Little Lies.

“Well, I knew Zoe because I was engaged to her father,” Kidman revealed in an earlier interview with The Edit. “It’s all in the family! I love Lenny; he’s a great guy.”

Now, Lenny’s daughter jokes that her onetime bonus mom must have “forgot that no one knew that” particular engagement tidbit.

Indeed, in past interviews, Nicole had carefully left out the name of the mystery man she was engaged to after her divorce from Tom Cruise and before she married Keith Urban. In 2007, the actress told Vanity Fair she was briefly engaged to another man after she split from Cruise, but she did not reveal that her former fiance was the rock star, Lenny Kravitz.

“I got engaged to somebody, but it just wasn’t right,” Nicole told Vanity Fair a decade ago. “I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.”

Now that it’s all out in the open, the actress recently told ET she has fond memories of spending time with Lenny’s daughter when she was younger.

“I’ve known her since she was little,” Nicole told ET of her Big Little Lies co-star. “I’ve watched her grow up and she’s gorgeous. Not just on the outside, on the inside.”

Lenny Kravitz began dating Kidman in 2003 when she rented a New York City apartment from him while construction was being done on her own home nearby. The exes remain on friendly terms, and Lenny Kravitz is also notoriously close to his daughter.

In an interview earlier this year with Billboard, Lenny Kravitz said that Roland Crane, the character he plays in the Lee Daniels’ Fox drama, Star, is the “a**hole” version of himself, and the character’s relationship with his daughter is nothing like his relationship with Zoe.

“The relationship that he has with his daughter couldn’t be more opposite than the relationship I have with my daughter,” Lenny told Billboard. “But he looks like me and kind of dresses like me. But his attitude is not me. At all.”
