In just about a month, the Walt Disney Company will hold its biennial convention called D23 Expo, and it just got a whole lot bigger. The convention occurs every two years at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, and it is when Disney runs down new things for its parks, movies, shows, and more. This week, they’ve made a number of huge announcements for D23, and one of them included a panel and tribute to The Golden Girls.
There have already been a ton of announcements made by Disney regarding this year’s D23 Expo including Marvel presentations, Walt Disney Animation and Pixar panels, and the induction of the “Disney Legends. This year’s class of Disney Legends includes:
- Carrie Fisher
- Mark Hamill
- Stan Lee
- Oprah Winfrey
- Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi
- Manuel Gonzales
- Wayne Jackson
- Garry Marshall

Disney certainly isn’t stopping there as they have made another round of huge announcements this week through the official website for the D23 Expo. One of the biggest things to come out of this new round of news is the fact that there will be a panel devoted to The Golden Girls called “A Celebration of Friendship, Laughter, and Cheesecake.”
This event will take place on the first day of the D23 Expo, which is Friday, July 14, and it will happen at 2:30 p.m. PT on Stage 28. The creators of The Golden Girls will be there, along with some of the show’s writers and other special guests.
There is no official word on Betty White showing up, but there is always hope.
On Sunday, July 16, there will be a special screening in the D23 Expo Arena at 3:15 p.m., and it is one that attendees do not want to miss. It will be an 80th anniversary screening of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which is the Disney film that started it all.
Later on Sunday evening, the “Legends of Walt Disney Imagineering” will take place at 6 p.m. in the D23 Expo Arena, and it will be hosted by John Stamos. The Full House star will lead a conversation with Imagineers Tony Baxter, Wayne Jackson, and Marty Sklar which will surely include some truly magical stories.
Oh My Disney also revealed that Susan Egan and Tate Donovan, the voices of Hercules and Megara, will be on hand to share behind-the-scenes stories from Hercules. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the animated classic, and this panel will take place on Sunday at 12:30 p.m..
Other big events during the D23 Expo weekend include the following.
D23 Expo’s Ultimate Fan Street Party
This will be a first-time event as a huge street party will take place on the D23 Expo show floor twice daily on each of the three days. There will be Disney characters, a live band, and celebrity grand marshals for each one. The first party on Friday will be hosted by grand marshals Stan Lee and Mark Hamill.
Center Stage
The D23 Expo show floor will have numerous live performances by many big names, including Lou Diamond Phillips, Aime Carrero, Tomasina, Temecula Road, and Susan Egan. The voice of Disneyland, Bill Rogers, will even be there to record outgoing voicemail messages for fans attending the event.
Every two years, the D23 Expo is Disney’s way of giving even more back to the fans and letting the world know what they have in store. With Toy Story Land and the two Star Wars-themed lands on the horizon, there are so many things happening in the parks. Throw movies, animated shorts, news cruise ships, and The Golden Girls on top of that, and you’ve got a very full weekend in the works.
