‘Orange Is The New Black’ Spoilers: Here’s What You Need To Know About Season 5
Orange Is the New Black spoilers are in and Season 5 sounds like it’s going to be a really exciting season filled with themes that touch on our current political-social climate. It’s what creator Jenji Kohan is best at doing, even with the confines of an all-women prison.
If you need a refresher, last season, the Black Lives Matter and police brutality debates were faced head on through the prison narrative. One of Litchfield’s favorite inmates, Poussey Washington, was killed after she got caught up in the middle of a heated altercation. She was pinned underneath a corrections officer’s knee and suffocated to death. Her character’s death was traumatizing for every group of inmates and it looks like this season we’ll see the ripple effect Poussey’s death will cause.
In other words? The uprising has begun.
Orange Is the New Black spoilers state that Season 5 takes place over four days. Usually, we see the inmates and their journey over the course of weeks or months for each respective season but Season 5 is going to be very controlled in the way it tells the story. According to actress Danielle Brooks, who plays, Taystee, she told E!, “It will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, your tissues, everything.”
Fans of Orange Is the New Black were left with a pretty incredible cliffhanger last season. We saw the beginning of the uprising happen, as each section of the prison saw inmates rushing the corridors. It all escalated when Daya got ahold of Officer Thomas Humphrey’s gun, which she immediately turned on Humphrey, as the inmates cheered her on.
When we return to the seres, Orange Is the New Black spoilers state that we will find out if Daya ever pulled that trigger. As it’s teased in the trailer, a gun did go off, but was it Daya’s gun or is it coming from somewhere else? Maybe it’s a warning shot?
#OITNB review: Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Soso (Kimiko Glenn) are given “some of their finest material to date” https://t.co/9rxnaYso6A pic.twitter.com/VlK8eAaO4h

While we don’t know what the end result is, we do know that Taystee is in a bad way after the death of her best friend. At the end of Season 4 we saw her going through the beginnings of grief, but according to spoilers, we’ll really see what Poussey’s death will do to her. Danielle Brooks told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s war. Taystee has nothing to lose, she’s lost everything that she cared so deeply about. It’s time to fight. I think — I don’t know! — but I think that’s where we will see Taystee go.”
As for returning characters, Orange is the New Black spoilers state that our beloved Lolly might be back. The last we heard from Lolly (Lori Petty) she was brought to psych after she suffered a breakdown. While we don’t know whether or not she will return in the 5th season, it seems likely as Petty didn’t flat out deny this when she spoke to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I can’t say for sure, but I absolutely think we will. I just assumed they’d go to psych, like they go to the SHU. But I’m just making stuff up right now because I don’t know.”
On the other side of that is Nicky Nichols. We saw her in huge turmoil as the demons of her past crept up on her after she turned to drugs. During that whole ordeal, she was practically disowned by Red, the only person she truly could count on in times of need. For Season 4, due to Nicky living “on the edge,” we only saw her for half of the season. So what does this mean in terms of season 5? Well, it looks like Nicky is definitely back. It’s not known how much of this season we’ll see of the character but at least we can look forward to some excellent one liners from actress Natasha Lyonne.
