WWE Rumors: Kurt Angle Could Face Triple H In His In-Ring Return Later This Year
Kurt Angle finally has a storyline on Monday Night Raw, and it could lead to his in-ring return later this year. Angle has been doing a great job as the general manager of the red brand, but the declining ratings of the show forced the hand of the WWE to use the Hall of Famer in a story. The latest rumors suggest that Triple H could be the opponent of Angle when he wrestles for the first time in the WWE since 2006.
As recapped by WWE.com, Monday Night Raw color commentator Corey Graves has been receiving information from an anonymous source regarding Kurt Angle. The texts received by Graves apparently can damage the reputation of Angle, and fans are wondering who sent the messages and why they are attacking the general manager.
The declining ratings of Monday Night Raw have forced the WWE to use all the resources they have like Angle, who returned to the company earlier this year. The 48-year-old was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and he signed a multiyear deal to stay with the company. Fans are also excited to see Angle get back in the ring, possibly later this year.
According to Wrestling News World, the storyline involving Kurt Angle will eventually lead to the return of Monday Night Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon and her husband, Triple H. The report also noted that the storyline is going to set up a match between Angle and Triple H at WrestleMania 34. However, the rumored match might get advanced due to the bad ratings of Monday Night Raw.
Blake Oestriecher of Forbes pointed out that the WWE is known for putting up great storylines heading toward the summer. Some of the storylines the WWE has used over the past years include CM Punk taking the WWE championship away from the company, the takeover of Nexus, and the “Million Dollar Mania,” where Vince McMahon was giving out $1 million to one fan every week.
Oestriecher added the WWE has relied on part-timers in boosting their ratings like what happened with Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar last year. He also noted that Triple H is a big draw during his feud with Roman Reigns, and it seems like Kurt Angle vs. The Authority is going to be one of the main storylines for the WWE this summer along with Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman and the return of John Cena.
“The hope is obviously that the combination of Triple H and Angle can do the same, especially given that Angle hasn’t wrestled a match for WWE since 2006 and would undoubtedly peak interest in Raw if the show ignites a feud leading to his return match.”
Kurt Angle, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon have a history dating back to the Attitude Era, as well as the Ruthless Aggression Era. Triple H and Angle were rivals for the WWE championship, and Kurt even had a thing for Stephanie. It would be a nostalgic extravaganza if Angle, Triple H, and Stephanie get involved in a major storyline as soon as Great Balls of Fire.
Triple H is already past his prime, and he is now a WWE executive. However, he is still in top shape, and he can put on a great match. His last match was at WrestleMania 34 when he lost to Seth Rollins in a Non-Sanctioned Match. Triple H is also a safe worker and can protect Kurt Angle, who has had five neck surgeries throughout his career.
However, it should be noted that these are just rumors at the moment and nothing has been confirmed. There have been no reports suggesting that Kurt Angle has passed the WWE medical. Fans should tune in every week on Monday Night Raw to see if there will be any progress on Angle’s storyline. The WWE tends to change their plans on a regular basis so nothing is set in stone.
