Stephen Baldwin Arrested For Tax Evasion
Stephen Baldwin has been arrested.
According to TMZ, Baldwin was arrested for failing to file personal income tax returns for multiple years. According to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe, Baldwin didn’t file his tax returns in 2008, 2009, or 2010 and owes New York more than $350,000.
Zugibe said:
“At a time when Rockland County and New York State face severe fiscal shortfalls, we cannot afford to allow wealthy residents to break the law by cheating on their taxes … The defendant’s repetitive failure to file returns and pay taxes over a period of several years contributes to the sweeping cutbacks and closures in local government and in our schools.”
The Business Insider reports that Baldwin could face 4 years in prison if he is convicted.
Zugibe added:
“The defendant’s repetitive failure to file returns and pay taxes over a period of several years contributes to the sweeping cutbacks and closures in local government and in our schools.”
Baldwin was a big star in the early 90s when he starred in action thrillers like The Usual Suspects. His star has fallen in recent years but he did make the news last week when he came out in support of Angus T. Jones.
And Baldwin isn’t the only star making headlines due to tax problems these days. Nicolas Cage recently paid off a $600,000 tax liens and Lindsay Lohan recently had her accounts seized due to her outstanding debt to the IRS.
Baldwin, who filed for bankruptcy in 2009, is scheduled to return to court in February.
