Kathryn Bigelow has racked up numerous accolades during her film career (she has two Oscars and was the first woman to win an Academy Award for best directing) and she may add on to that list with her latest film Zero Dark Thirty. Bigelow is also very attractive. According to Bret Easton Ellis, Bigelow is an “overrated” director who is only popular because she’s also a “very hot woman.”
According to Ellis, the writer of the soon-to-be panned Lindsay Lohan movie The Canyons, said that Bigelow would be considered a “mildly interesting” director if she was a man.
Ellis wrote on Twitter:
“Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she’s a very hot woman she’s really overrated.
Bigelow won her two Oscars, one for directing and one for best picture, in 2009 for her movie The Hurt Locker. Her latest movie Zero Dark Thirty hasn’t hit theaters yet but it has already gained critical praise by winning best film honors from the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review.
According to the Hollywood Reporter , Zero Dark Thirty is also considered to be an Oscar contender for best picture, best screenplay, best actress and, of course, for best director.
Ellis doesn’t share the same film accolades as Kathryn Bigelow but he is an accomplished author. His novel American Psycho was turned into movie starring Christian Bale and he recently penned The Canyons starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen.

Kathryn Bigelow: Strange Days, K-19 The Widowmaker, Blue Steel, The Hurt Locker. Are we talking about visionary filmmaking or just OK junk?

What do you think about Bret Easton Ellis’ comment? Is Kathryn Bigelow an “overrated” director? Is Ellis jealous of Bigelow’s success?
