Possible PLL spoilers might be ahead. Do not continue reading if you don’t want any hints of what is coming on the Freeform series.
In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Marlene King and the cast of Pretty Little Liars sat down to talk about the series and the Season 7 finale. It turns out that Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, and Sasha Pieterse were shocked at the identity of “A.D.” Benson, who plays Hanna Marin, explained their reaction without revealing any major spoilers. She hinted that not only was the villain shocking, but it was also sad knowing that was the end of the series.
“It was the shock factor of finally knowing who ‘A’ was. I remember – was it the very first sentence that someone had to say something and we all just started crying? We couldn’t even do it. We almost weren’t able to even start the table read because it was just so heavy.”
Pieterse added that King had to tell them the reading was great, but they needed to ease up on the crying.
Regarding which Liar had it the worst on the show, King revealed that the characters would actually take turns. However, she reminded fans that “all roads lead to Alison.” The PLL executive producer also teased that Hale’s character, Aria Montgomery, will get to go a bit darker toward the Season 7 finale.
The timing of this statement is interesting. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Freeform published a list of “clues.” One of those teased that “A.D.” has a soft spot for Aria. However, is this clue real, or is this just trying to confuse fans into thinking the tormentor might be someone else? Nobody knows, at least not yet, but Marlene King hinted that viewers will definitely see a much darker Aria as the season finale approaches.
“Lucy’s talked a little bit about the [final] episodes – she hasn’t really gotten to go to some darker places as much as we’ve wanted her to, so she gets to spin that wheel, which is really fun.”
As for the final table read, Troian Bellisario admitted that it was really emotional. It was done in the same room as the pilot table read, but that wasn’t the only reason. The room was filled with Pretty Little Liars cast members that have not been seen in a long time. The actress who plays Spencer Hastings said it was a “massive” table read, there was a lot of crying, and plenty of cast members said goodbye.
As for the series ending, Shay Mitchell, who plays Emily Fields on PLL, believes it is the right time to say farewell.
“I think we’re ending it at the most perfect time, and honestly there couldn’t have been a better ending for this. [To Marlene King] You guys wrapped this up perfectly. Perfectly.”
What do you think of what Marlene King and the cast of Pretty Little Liars had to say about the Season 7 finale? Who do you predict will be exposed as A.D.? Episode 20, titled “Til’ Death Do Us Part,” airs June 27 on Freeform.
