‘The Originals’ Season 4 Spoilers: Daniel Gillies On Elijah Mikaelson’s Latest Death, Hayley Romance Doomed?
The Originals fans were not happy when Elijah Mikaelson died on The CW series. However, this is not the first time the character has passed away, and viewers are hoping it is just a temporary death. Recently, actor Daniel Gillies talked about the storyline and what everyone can expect when the show returns.
Spoilers are ahead. Do not continue reading if you do not want to know what to expect on The Vampire Diaries spinoff.
On the last episode of The Originals, Elijah Mikaelson died. However, death isn’t always permanent in the TVD spinoff, and that seems to be the case with this character. In an interview with TV Line, Daniel Gillies assured fans that Elijah is inside a pendant and will remain there until he can get free. This isn’t the first time he has died on the television show and the actor has actually lost count.
“How many deaths has Elijah had? I haven’t got the count, but I think a few fans do. At this point, we’ve kind of cried wolf.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a preview clip for “Phantomesque” reveals that Freya (Riley Voelkel) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will go inside Elijah’s mind. They will try to find out where he is. As Hayley explained in the clip, Elijah could be in any memory, and considering that he is over 1,000-years-old, that is a lot of ground to cover. However, it appears that he is found, but something in his eyes is quite troubling.
Even though Elijah has died several times in The Originals, for the actor, it is not repetitive. He puts as much effort into his death storylines as he does when Elijah is alive and well.
“It’s different every time. It depends on what weapon you’re being murdered with, if you want it slow or fast, and how exhausted you are on set that day. I’m joking about that last one, of course. It’s contingent on so many little factors. I never want to die exactly the same way twice, even though a couple of the deaths I’ve had might have been similar.”
Gillies implied that Elijah is not gone forever. If so, executive producers Julie Plec or Michael Narducci would have said something. When a character is killed off, one of the bosses will walk down the hallway to inform the actor. There might not be much notice, sometimes it is only one episode before the death. However, Daniel said he feels fortunate that he has not received a death notice, at least not yet.
Even though fans hope that Hayley will find Elijah and they can finally be happy together (after the Hollow is defeated, of course), it might not turn out that way. The Originals actor hinted that the relationship might be doomed.
“It’s sort of who they are, that’s their greatest obstacle. Have you ever been in a relationship where you’re kind of doomed from the get-go? You can sense it in your bones. There’s that feeling that you’re drawn to one another, but at the same time, you’re resisting it with good instinct. And those first instincts are the ones that need to govern. At the end of the day, [Hayley will] always be the mother to Klaus’ [Joseph Morgan] child, and he’ll always be a murderous monster in a suit. I don’t think they’ll ever extricate themselves from what they are. And what they are at their deepest selves can’t share a sustainable relationship.”
What do you think is going to happen with Elijah in The Originals? Can Hayley and Freya bring him back to the real world? Find out on June 2, when Season 4, Episode 10, airs on The CW network.
